Stopovers in Frankfurt are effortless.
Passport holders from some nations require a transit visa when transiting through Frankfurt. We recommend that you check with your airline or your consulate.
You may not even be checked.
If you are traveling between EU countries that have ratified
the Schengen Treaty, there are no passport or customs checks
at all. Currently, these are: Belgium, Germany, France, Luxemburg,
the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Greece, Denmark,
Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia,
Slovenia, Czech Republic and Hungary. Those arriving from or traveling
to any other country must have their passports checked in Frankfurt.
Tip for your stay in Frankfurt:
Frankfurt Airport is a world of a thousand possibilities for shopping, having
interesting experiences and enjoying yourself. So it's definitely
worth your while to check it out — provided that you have enough time
to leave the transit zone. In this case, of course, you officially enter
Germany and must therefore comply with all immigration requirements. It's
nowhere near as bad as it sounds, however: you simply go through the
passport check, possibly customs as well, and you may have to show that
you have a visa. To be on the safe side, leave enough time for the security
and passport checks when re-entering the transit zone.
In the transit zone as well, you will find many shops, places to eat and drink,
and other things to do to pass the time.
